I wanted to share my green smoothies for weight loss recipes. Drinking green smoothies is the surest way to lose weight. When I started drinking a single green smoothie a day, I started to lose weight fast. And I felt great!
What is a Green Smoothie?
“Green Smoothie” is the term used to describe any smoothie that includes raw green leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach, broccoli, or collard greens. They are packed with nutrients. A single green smoothie likely has more vegetables than most people eat in an entire day.
The human body finds leafy greens hard to digest. This is possibly because people don’t chew them long enough and because there is not enough stomach acid to digest them. The process of blending greens to make a smoothie shreds the greens, essentially making them pre-digested. When prepared this way, more of the nutrients from the greens are absorbed into the body.
Do Green Smoothies Taste Bad?
No! This is the worst misconception about green smoothies. I’ll admit they look horrible. But they don’t taste horrible.
Even though they are called green smoothies, they do not have to be made entirely of leafy greens. Adding fruit will add flavor to your weight loss smoothies. Mix your smoothies with 40% greens and 60% fruit. When prepared this way, the smoothie will taste of fruit and you will not taste the greens at all. You will also find that the vegetables balance out the sweetness of the fruit. The better your blender, the smoother your smoothie will be and the easier to drink.
After you make a green smoothie, if you find the taste is too strong, you can add vanilla or lemon juice to give it a more pleasant taste.
Instead of fruit, some people like using celery and avocado as the base for their smoothie. Give this alternative a try and see how you like it!
Others prefer to put ice in their green smoothies. The cold minimizes the taste somewhat.

Dandelion Greens: Its bitter taste is not to everyone's liking, but this bitterness can be masked with strong tasting fruit like pineapples. These greens are good for managing your cholesterol levels.
Swiss Chard: Has a flavor comparable to spinach, but a bit saltier. It is a great source of vitamin C, K, and A. It is also rich in magnesium, iron, manganese, and potassium.
Collard Greens: Bitter in taste but its nutrients make it worth your while. It is rich in vitamin C, A, K, manganese, calcium, and folate. It is often used in detox smoothies. You will need to mask the bitterness with great tasting fruit.
Kale: Full of vitamin C and K, beta carotene, calcium, fiber, and lutein. Kale's antioxidants and phytonutrients are reputed to have powerful anti-diabetic and anti-cancer properties. Kale takes some effort to chop up, but it is definitely worth the effort.
Romaine Lettuce: Most people don't know it, but romaine is 17% protein. It also has more vitamin C than an orange. Plus it is rich in omega-3s, calcium, iron, vitamin B (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B9), magnesium, copper, phosphorous, manganese, and other minerals.
I usually use one type of green all week and then change it the next week.
Green Smoothies Recipes
Mango Green Smoothie
1 bunch spinach
3 ripe mangos, peeled and sliced
1 cup water
Blend all ingredients on high until smooth.
2 cups fresh orange juice
1 cup blueberries
1 cup raspberries
1 cup cilantro
3–4 tablespoons carob powder
1 tablespoon raw honey (optional)
Blend and enjoy!
2 kale leaves
1 cup water
Blend all of the ingredients until creamy.
Carrot with a Kick
2 cups chopped carrots
1 cup chopped celery
1 tablespoon garlic
Pinch cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups water
Blend until smooth.
This is a very tasty recipe and a great way to ease yourself into the green smoothie habit.
2 Bananas, peeled
1.5 Cups Mangos
1.5 Cups Strawberries
1 Romaine Heart
2 Cups of Cold Water
Add the romaine, bananas and water to the blender. Mix for about 20 seconds on high-speed. Add mangos and strawberries. Mix for another 20 seconds
Mediterranean Fennel Smoothie
This smoothy has a mild licorice taste.
2 cups celery, chopped
2 cups pear, chopped
15 cups fennel, chopped
2 cups fresh parsley, chopped
3/4 cup water
Combine ingredients in a blender. Mix until smooth.
